The Philippines defeated Iran 2-0 in their final Women’s Asian Cup group match on the Gold Coast. The win secured third place in Group A and left the Filipinas waiting on the other groups to learn whether they would advance.
Sara Eggesvik opened the scoring after earlier attempts had been saved by Raha Yazdani. Iran also threatened, with Fatemeh Shaban hitting a post, but the Philippines retained their lead through a first half featuring several interventions from the Iranian goalkeeper.
Substitute Chandler McDaniel added the second late in the match, with her effort deflecting into the net. Further Philippine chances struck the woodwork or were disallowed for offside, while Iran’s second appearance in the tournament concluded without a point.
