A 2-0 playoff win against Uzbekistan confirmed their place in Brazil.
Source publication date:
The Philippines secured a second successive Women’s World Cup appearance by defeating Uzbekistan 2-0 on the Gold Coast. Two goals shortly after half-time decided the playoff, while Uzbekistan retained another qualification opportunity through the inter-confederation tournament.
The opening half remained scoreless despite chances at both ends. Philippines goalkeeper Olivia McDaniel dealt with Uzbekistan’s efforts, while Maftuna Jonimqulova made several saves and interventions to keep the Central Asian side level before the break.
Jael-Marie Guy then created both Philippine goals with deliveries from the flank. Angela Beard’s volley struck the crossbar and crossed the line before Jaclyn Sawicki headed in another Guy cross. Uzbekistan failed to respond, allowing the Philippines to protect the result and book their ticket to Brazil.
