Poland and Scotland upset higher-ranked rivals in Santiago opener
Ireland also won while Chile and Wales drew on the qualifier's first men's matchday.

Poland and Scotland recorded 3–2 victories over Korea and France respectively on the opening men's day of the Santiago Hockey World Cup qualifier. Ireland defeated Canada 5–2, while hosts Chile and Wales shared a 2–2 draw to complete the programme.
Gracjan Jarzyński scored twice as Poland recovered from two separate deficits before Michał Lange supplied the winner. Scotland also overturned a two-goal disadvantage, with Jamie Golden scoring once and Cameron Golden twice during a decisive second-quarter burst.
Ireland established a three-goal lead before a more open final quarter, and Lee Cole was named player of the match. Wales rescued a point against Chile through Gareth Furlong's penalty stroke, leaving the host team without an opening victory despite its earlier lead.
