Six programme participants secured US college hockey scholarships in 2025.
Source publication date:
Kenyan hockey figure Rael Nyte explained how the Tunza Sports Foundation combines sporting participation with education for rural girls. The FIH profile described a programme built around coaching, academic monitoring, family engagement and practical support for school fees and other needs.
Nyte's own journey included representing Kenya before moving to the United States, where she coached at club and school level and worked as a PAHF technical official. Those experiences helped her build connections supporting equipment drives, fundraising and mentorship back in Kenya.
Six girls who entered Tunza during primary school earned US college hockey scholarships in 2025 after helping their school win a national title. Nyte described that outcome as evidence for the programme's equal emphasis on academic progress and sport, strengthening families' belief in the pathway.
