Real Madrid won 2-0 at Villarreal through two goals from Kylian Mbappé, earning a fifth consecutive La Liga victory. The result at the Estadio de la Cerámica left Madrid at the top of the table at the end of Saturday’s play.
Mbappé opened the scoring in the 47th minute after Vinícius Júnior’s move down the left and a loose ball in the area. Gerard Moreno later had an opportunity to equalise from a set piece but sent his shot over.
The second goal arrived during added time from a penalty won by Mbappé after Alfonso Pedraza brought him down. His chipped conversion took his season total to 34 goals, including 21 in La Liga, as Madrid completed another clean-sheet win.
