Real Sociedad end Barcelona’s winning run
The Basque side won 2-1 despite Barcelona hitting the woodwork five times.
Source publication date:
Real Sociedad defeated Barcelona 2-1 in San Sebastián, interrupting the visitors’ winning run. Barcelona’s official report recorded 25 shots and five efforts against the woodwork, but the pressure did not produce the points Hansi Flick’s side sought.
Mikel Oyarzabal put the home team ahead with a volley from Carlos Soler’s cross. Marcus Rashford later equalised with a header, only for Sociedad to restore the lead almost immediately after the restart of play.
Barcelona had several early finishes disallowed and continued searching for another equaliser after Rashford’s goal. The result kept the Catalans at the top of La Liga, but their advantage was reduced to a single point following Real Madrid’s win over Levante the previous day.
