Rybakina defeats Swiatek to reach Melbourne semifinals
An eighth consecutive top-ten victory underlined the Kazakhstani player’s form.
Source publication date:
Elena Rybakina defeated Iga Swiatek 7–5, 6–1 to advance to the Australian Open semifinals. The fifth-ranked Kazakhstani secured her eighth successive victory against a top-ten opponent and her eighteenth win in nineteen tour-level matches stretching back to the previous October.
Rybakina had won the WTA Finals in November and described that sequence of demanding matches as a source of confidence for the new season. Her aggressive approach and willingness to attack close to the lines remained central to the quarterfinal performance.
The result gave her a semifinal against Jessica Pegula as she sought a second Melbourne final after finishing runner-up in 2023. Rybakina also led the women’s field with thirty-five aces at that stage, following a tour-leading total of 516 during 2025.
