The top seed advanced without losing a set for a fourth consecutive Melbourne semifinal.
Source publication date:
Aryna Sabalenka defeated Iva Jovic 6–3, 6–0 to reach the Australian Open semifinals. The world number one required one hour and twenty-nine minutes at Rod Laver Arena while Melbourne’s temperature reached thirty-eight degrees, completing her fourth consecutive semifinal appearance at the tournament.
Jovic competed strongly in the first set and created chances as Sabalenka served to close it. The top seed saved those opportunities through accurate, powerful serving before extending her advantage in a dominant second set that offered the teenager no route back.
Sabalenka finished with thirty-one winners against Jovic’s twelve and won sixty-one per cent of points on her opponent’s second serve. Her fourteenth major semifinal came without dropping a set during the campaign, with Coco Gauff or Elina Svitolina to provide the next challenge.
