Safi rescue a first-leg draw in Moroccan derby
Wydad’s second-half advantage disappeared late in a 1-1 quarter-final.

Olympique Club de Safi and Wydad drew 1-1 in the first leg of their CAF Confederation Cup quarter-final. The result at Al Massira Stadium left the Moroccan derby unresolved before the return match in Casablanca.
The sides remained scoreless through a cautious first half, with Safi goalkeeper Hamza Hamiani denying Wydad’s attacking efforts. Ramiro Vaca eventually gave the visitors the lead midway through the second period after a move involving Walid Nassi.
Safi responded through Saleheddine Rahouli’s late shot, which hit a post before deflecting off goalkeeper Mehdi Benabid and crossing the line. Wydad then had a stoppage-time effort disallowed following a VAR review for a foul in the buildup, preserving the draw for Safi’s first continental quarter-final.
