Samoa and Canada top opening-day SVNS 3 pools
Samoa remains unbeaten while Canada survives a decisive Madagascar challenge.
Source publication date:
Samoa won all three pool matches on the opening day of the men’s HSBC SVNS 3 tournament in Dubai. Victories over Colombia, Hong Kong China and Tonga secured a semi-final against Belgium, with the team conceding only four tries across the day.
Canada topped the other pool after a less straightforward route. It beat Italy 33–7, then lost 19–15 to Belgium when Miguel Fachada scored after the hooter. A final match against Madagascar therefore became decisive for Canada’s semi-final ambitions.
Two Thomas Isherwood tries around half-time helped Canada win that encounter 24–17 and advance to face Hong Kong China. Belgium had already qualified before losing to Italy, while Hong Kong China’s 38–10 victory against Colombia secured the other semi-final position.
