Sixteen-year-old Samuel Kim has developed Aim for Unity, a New Jersey nonprofit offering introductory archery workshops for older adults and promoting dementia awareness. World Archery reported that the initiative had reached more than 450 participants across nine senior centres.
Kim launched the project in 2024 after his grandmother’s dementia diagnosis. Its team had grown to 19 staff members, and a recent Old Tappan session was the organisation’s 28th workshop. Participants use beginner bows and Velcro-tipped arrows, with simple instruction intended to encourage enjoyable activity.
Kim credited lessons from coach Kim Hyung Tak and his own coach Mun Baekwoon for shaping the approach. After initial difficulties securing venues, the programme gained repeat invitations and was exploring expansion into neighbouring New York.
