Melvin Seliberg won the men’s freeski rail event at the Park and Pipe Junior World Championships in Calgary. The fifteen-year-old Swede scored 43.88 points in the ten-person final, ahead of Norway’s Axel A Indrevik on 42.13 and Leon Vist Benjaminsen on 40.
Seliberg improved throughout the contest, advancing from seventh in qualification to third in the semifinal before taking gold. Earlier in the week he had finished twelfth in big air and twenty-sixth in slopestyle, making rail his breakthrough result at WinSport Canada Olympic Park.
Top qualifier Cody Oldham placed fourth with 39.63 points. Rail appeared on the junior championship programme for the first time, and Seliberg’s victory supplied Sweden’s only podium result at the Calgary edition as freeski competition concluded.
