Thirteen-year-old Jadon Simiyu became Kenya’s youngest national chess champion, while Woman Candidate Master Julie Mutisya secured the women’s title. The championships ran from December 26 to 31 at the Westwood Hotel in Nairobi’s Westlands district.

Players contested eleven rounds, with two games scheduled daily. Mutisya recovered from a second-round defeat against Bella Nashipae and won her final game to settle the women’s competition. Both champions represented Equity Chess Club during the tournament.

Each winner received a new car, while the qualifiers also earned cash prizes. The top five finishers in each section qualified to represent Kenya at the 2026 Chess Olympiad in Samarkand, linking the domestic championship directly to international selection.
