Sloan explains Olympic Mind Zone support and safeguarding
The IOC project manager described quiet spaces, confidential help and federation cooperation.
Source publication date:
IOC mental health project manager Scott Sloan discussed the Athlete365 Mind Zone in a FIS interview following Milano Cortina. The spaces offered athletes a quiet place to recover, practise mindfulness and seek confidential assistance, responding to requests for greater privacy within busy Olympic villages.
Activities included colouring, stretching, gratitude postcards and virtual reality breathing exercises developed with sport psychologist Göran Kenttä. Safeguarding officers were based in the spaces, connecting walk-in support with a wider network of national committee and international federation welfare staff during the Games.
Sloan said FIS helped athletes understand and access the available services. Haitian cross-country skier Stevenson Savart described using the space to reduce stress before competition, while feedback from medical and welfare officers supported continued development of the initiative.
