Slovakia coach Martin Dendis highlighted Project 18 in a March interview ahead of the country's home under-18 world championship. The hosts were preparing to play in Trencin's Pavol Demitra Arena, with Bratislava also staging the tournament.

The national development programme brings leading under-18 players together throughout the season, combining domestic junior and senior league matches with international breaks. Dendis connected that preparation with Slovakia's three successive semi-final appearances since returning to the elite division in 2023.

Defender Adam Goljer, a Trencin native with senior professional experience, was expected to lead the team. The coach emphasised the players' longstanding relationships and team commitment, while presenting the home tournament as an opportunity to enjoy competing in front of their supporters.
