South Africa defeated Afghanistan after two Super Overs in Ahmedabad, the first such finish in men’s T20 World Cup history. Both teams made 187 in their innings and seventeen in the first tiebreak before South Africa scored twenty-three against Afghanistan’s nineteen.
West Indies beat England after posting 196 for six in Mumbai. Sherfane Rutherford’s unbeaten 76 included seven sixes, helping recover from two early wickets. The Caribbean spin attack then kept England under pressure as West Indies collected a second group-stage victory.
Australia opened its campaign with a sixty-seven-run win over Ireland in Colombo. Matt Renshaw and Marcus Stoinis steadied the innings through a sixty-one-run partnership after an unsettled start. Their result completed a day spanning a tight Ahmedabad finish and two more decisive performances.
