Souza returns to World Judo Tour podium with Lima gold
The Olympic champion defeats Asya Tavano in the +78kg final.

Beatriz Souza won women’s +78kg gold at the Lima Grand Prix against Italy’s Asya Tavano. It was the Brazilian Olympic champion’s first World Judo Tour medal of the new Olympic cycle.
Souza scored early in the final before finishing with a hold-down that Tavano could not escape. The result followed a period in which she had struggled to reproduce her Paris 2024 form on the tour.
Brazil’s Thauana Silva beat Venezuela’s Karen Leon for bronze at her first Grand Prix. Israel’s Raz Hershko took the other bronze against Colombia’s Brigitte Carabali, combining a throw and hold after 90 seconds.
