Spain’s women defeated Australia 4–1 as the Pro League resumed in Hobart. They faced a younger Australian side, with many of the Hockeyroos’ established players travelling towards Chile for the forthcoming World Cup qualifying tournament during the same period.
Lucia Jimenez put Spain ahead from a sixth-minute penalty corner, before Australia answered through a broken-down set-piece situation. The visitors went on to establish a convincing advantage and secure the regulation points against the revised home line-up.
The corresponding men’s match brought a 3–1 Australian victory and a significant personal milestone for Jeremy Hayward, who reached his 250 th international appearance. The two matches therefore produced mixed home results while connecting current league competition with the wider international qualifying calendar.
