Suter ends World Cup victory drought in Soldeu
The Swiss downhill skier won ahead of Ortlieb and Goggia after returning from injury.
Source publication date:
Corinne Suter won the women’s World Cup downhill in Soldeu, ending a victory drought of more than three years. The Swiss skier beat Nina Ortlieb by 0.11 seconds and Sofia Goggia by 0.24 in the first downhill since the Olympic Games.
Suter set the early benchmark from bib four, recording the fastest times across the first three sectors. Her performance on the lower part of the course preserved that advantage as the remaining contenders completed their runs.
The thirty-one-year-old had suffered multiple leg injuries in a December training accident and returned to racing in January. She finished outside the top ten in her first six starts of the season, including fourteenth in the Olympic downhill, before winning again in Andorra.
