Linn Svahn won the women’s freestyle sprint at the Lake Placid World Cup finale, finishing 0.46 seconds ahead of Jonna Sundling. Maja Dahlqvist took third, 1.54 behind, completing a Swedish podium sweep and securing her third sprint Crystal Globe in the process.
Dahlqvist needed to finish ahead of Switzerland’s Nadine Faehndrich and overtook her on the home straight. The Swede ended the sprint season with 814 points, ahead of Johanna Hagstroem on 798 and the retiring Faehndrich on 793 in the final discipline standings.
Svahn added the sprint victory to her ten-kilometre success from the previous day. She had reached the final through a late semifinal surge, then stayed nearer the front to deliver another winning finish before the weekend’s closing distance race.
