Tahiti United defeat Hekari in rescheduled league fixture
Goals from Degrumelle and Shan secured a second win of the season.
Source publication date:
Tahiti United beat PNG Hekari 2-1 in Melbourne in a rescheduled OFC Pro League fixture. The match had been postponed by heavy rain in Auckland during Round One, and victory brought Tahiti level on points with fourth-placed Vanuatu United.
Matéo Degrumelle gave Tahiti the lead after combining with Terai Bremond in the first half. Hekari gradually recovered, with Raymond Gunemba forcing a save, but Tahiti kept their advantage through the interval.
Coach Sam Garcia made three changes at half-time and substitute Manuarii Shan immediately added a second goal with a header from Joseph Athale’s cross. Joseph Joe quickly reduced Hekari’s deficit, but Tahiti resisted the remaining pressure and retained the three points before the competition’s Honiara round.
