Tehau’s late penalty rescues Tahiti against PNG Hekari
The sides shared four goals in a match settled deep into added time.
Source publication date:
Tahiti United twice recovered from behind to draw 2-2 with PNG Hekari at the National Stadium in Honiara. Teaonui Tehau converted a penalty in the sixteenth minute of stoppage time, denying the Papua New Guinea club a much-needed victory.
Joseph Joe gave Hekari the lead directly from a corner midway through the first half. Tahiti answered from another set piece, with Manuarii Shan heading in at the near post shortly before the interval to restore parity.
Rex Naime appeared to have won the match when he capitalised on Logan Biwa’s pressure and finished late in normal time. A foul on Tehau, confirmed after a VAR review, instead gave Tahiti the opportunity to claim a point.
