Slovenia coach Edo Terglav described the progress of his emerging players in a March IIHF interview following European Cup of Nations competition. Slovenia had finished thirteenth at the 2025 World Championship, retaining its elite division place for the first time since 2005.
Terglav said the previous championship squad included twelve newcomers, some still of junior age. He used another youthful group in Edinburgh, where Slovenia finished second behind Ukraine, while experienced players including Robert Sabolic and Rok Ticar also joined the February roster.
The report highlighted Marcel Mahkovac's seven points in five international games and the development of teenage defender Jan Golicic. Terglav linked their opportunities to a longer rebuilding process, with sustained top division participation and a future Olympic return among Slovenia's objectives.
