Tinne Gilis beats Stefanoni to end her wait for a final
The Belgian reached the New Zealand Open decider in straight games.
Source publication date:
Tinne Gilis reached her first PSA final since October 2024 with an 11–9, 11–5, 13–11 victory over Marina Stefanoni. The forty-one-minute New Zealand Open semifinal placed the Belgian in the Christchurch championship match after a contest that tightened late in two games.
Gilis established a substantial opening-game lead before the American closed the gap. She held on to take that game 11–9 and controlled the second more comfortably, putting herself within one game of ending her long absence from tournament finals.
In the third, Stefanoni recovered from 7–1 down and pushed the game into extra points. Gilis again found the finish she needed, winning 13–11 to complete the straight-games victory at the Isaac Theatre Royal and continue her strong New Zealand campaign.
