Tina Trstenjak described a new stage of her judo career after completing examinations for all seven Kodokan kata. The Slovenian Olympic champion spent three years studying and testing, following the end of her competitive career in December 2022.

Her continuing education included opportunities through the IJF Academy and a refereeing pathway. She earned both continental and international IJF refereeing licences while expanding her understanding of the sport’s classified techniques and traditional forms.

Some kata examinations were completed in Slovenia and others at Kodokan seminars in Europe. Trstenjak said the seventh certificate gave her another rewarding milestone and expressed a wish that her experience would encourage younger athletes and established champions to keep learning beyond competition.
