United States men withdraw from Ismailia World Cup qualifier
FIH confirmed the team left Egypt after a US State Department advisory.
Source publication date:
The United States men's team withdrew from the Hockey World Cup qualifying tournament in Ismailia, Egypt, with FIH's support. The federation confirmed the players had departed after an official US State Department advisory concerning countries within or near the Middle East conflict zone.
The advisory was issued on 3 March and included Egypt among the countries from which US citizens were urged to leave. FIH published the withdrawal announcement the following day, connecting the team's departure directly to the changing security guidance.
The results of the United States' opening two matches remained valid. All remaining fixtures involving the team were cancelled, while the tournament continued towards its classification stage on Friday and finals on Saturday, leaving the other participants' qualifying programme in place.
