Wollaston doubles up at Paracombe
The leader won another reduced sprint after a demanding stage in 35-degree heat.
Source publication date:
Ally Wollaston defended her Tour Down Under lead by winning the second women’s stage in Paracombe. The New Zealander again converted support from FDJ United-SUEZ into success, this time after a difficult route that reduced the finishing group.
The stage began in Magill for the first time and covered 130.7 kilometres in temperatures reaching 35 degrees. Wilma Aintila gained enough intermediate bonus seconds to become the virtual race leader before the peloton brought her back.
Wollaston stayed composed through late attacks and the final climb to take a second consecutive victory. Paula Blasi moved into the mountains jersey, while Justyna Czapla retained the young rider lead ahead of the race’s Corkscrew finale.
