World Rugby launches a remote video-officiating hub
Nations Cup and Junior World Championship officials operated from a central UK facility.
Source publication date:
World Rugby announced the debut of a fully remote Television Match Official hub on 7 July. The system supported the Nations Cup in the Americas and the Junior World Championship in Georgia from a central facility in the United Kingdom.
The federation partnered with Hawk-Eye at its Basingstoke headquarters. Officials could review all camera angles independently of the broadcast director, using facilities including split-screen and zoom functions. The approach built on earlier remote foul-play review arrangements.
The stated objectives were faster, more consistent decisions and lower overall costs for organisers, alongside new minimum technology standards. Wider use at future World Rugby events remained subject to evaluation; the announcement does not prove a measured improvement in every match.
