Zalaka equaliser earns Pyramids a draw in Rabat
The defending champions recovered from an early deficit against AS FAR.
Source publication date:
Pyramids drew 1-1 with AS FAR in the opening leg of their CAF Champions League quarter-final in Rabat. Mahmoud Zalaka’s second-half equaliser cancelled Ahmed Hammoudan’s early goal, leaving the defending champions level before the return match in Egypt.
Hammoudan finished high into the net after Zin-Eddine Derrag found him inside the area. Pyramids tried to respond but repeatedly encountered the offside flag, while goalkeeper Ahmed Tagnaouti stopped a long-range effort from Nasser Maher before the interval.
Zalaka reacted to the visitors’ pressure after successive corners and converted from close range shortly after the restart. Both clubs then sought a winner, with Tagnaouti making further late saves from Hamed Hamdan and Zico to preserve the draw for AS FAR.
