Indonesia beat Thailand on penalties to win inaugural FIFA ASEAN Cup
Indonesia defeated Thailand 4–2 on penalties after a 2–2 draw in Jakarta to become the first FIFA ASEAN Cup champions.
Indonesia defeated Thailand 4–2 in a penalty shoot-out after the inaugural FIFA ASEAN Cup final finished 2–2 following extra time at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta on 5 October 2026.
Dean James put Indonesia ahead in the 84th minute. Iklas Sanron equalised three minutes later, taking the final to extra time after Thailand had been reduced to ten players late in regulation.
Peeradol Chamrasamee gave Thailand a 2–1 lead in the 111th minute. Elkan Baggott answered in the 116th minute, sending the match to penalties.
Sarach Yooyen failed to convert Thailand’s third attempt, and Indonesia goalkeeper Emil Audero then saved Nattapong Sayriya’s kick. The 4–2 shoot-out result delivered the tournament’s first Division One title to the hosts.
