Egor Kornev matched the men’s short-course 100m freestyle world record with 44.84 seconds at the Swimming World Cup in Baku on 2 October. The Russian swimmer equalled the mark Kyle Chalmers established on the World Cup circuit in 2021.

Cameron McEvoy finished second in 45.36 and Vasilii Kukushkin third in 46.77. Earlier in the session, Kornev won the 50m backstroke in 22.23, lowering Isaac Cooper’s World Cup record of 22.58. That swim remained outside Kliment Kolesnikov’s world record of 22.11.

The 100m performance is a record in a 25-metre pool; it is separate from the long-course records contested in Olympic 50-metre pools. Baku’s meeting runs through 3 October before the series moves to Tashkent on 8–10 October and Astana on 15–17 October. Results from those later sessions are still pending.
