Wakana Koga wins her first world judo title in Baku
Japan's Wakana Koga defeated defending champion Assunta Scutto in the women's 48kg final to claim her first senior world title.
Wakana Koga won the women's 48kg title at the 2026 World Judo Championships in Baku on 4 October, defeating Italy's defending champion Assunta Scutto in the final. The International Judo Federation's official result places Koga first and Scutto second.
Koga scored with o-uchi-gari before securing the contest in ne-waza after one minute and 15 seconds, according to the IJF's final report. Shirine Boukli of France and Sabina Giliazova of Russia took the two bronze medals.
